Self-Portrait

Acrylic on canvas.
150cm x 200cm
December 2012

The artist poses as the girl in Frederic Leighton’s Lieder Ohne Worte (Song Without Words), extracting herself as the model in a way to take control of her own self-image. Inspired by Marina Abramovic’s The Artist is Present, Kate wears red to state that the female present is the artist and the model is absent.

First in the series, after this piece the work changed to make the image life sized so that the figure would more present and not overwhelmed by the mass of fabric.
